AI is everywhere. From tech giants to news media, YouTubers, and social media gurus, it’s hard to escape the trends and big promises. While much of what we see is hype or fear-mongering, there are many practical ways AI can help entrepreneurs market and grow their businesses.

Let’s talk strategy and competition. Do you know who your direct and indirect competitors are? I mean the companies that are closely related to your business and where you are right now. Be realistic, if you are a brand-new beverage company, don’t think Coca-Cola is your competitor. You are not on their level, and that is okay. You do not need to beat Coca-Cola to make your business successful. What you do need is a strategy to identify gaps in your sales and marketing efforts and figure out how to close them.

In this post, I’ll share a series of AI prompts you can use in ChatGPT to analyze your business, your competitors, and your marketing strategy. These prompts can identify what your competitors are known for, what online sources are saying about them, and their specialties. They’ll also provide a list of marketing strategies your competitors are using or aren’t using that could give you an edge. ChatGPT can create a comparison analysis of your business and a 90-day marketing plan to help you catch up to your competition.

A Few Important Notes

Business is an experiment. To see meaningful results, you need to test each idea consistently for at least ninety days. Don’t start and stop and expect success; commit to following through.

Not all AI suggestions will be the perfect fit for your business. Consider your industry, audience, products, and services before implementing recommendations. After receiving suggestions from ChatGPT, conduct additional research before committing to any marketing plan.

Although we are focusing on ChatGPT, you can use the same prompts in other AI generative text tools.

Getting Started with ChatGPT

If you are already using ChatGPT for your business, for writing emails, product descriptions, website copy, social media posts, or ad copy, ChatGPT is already familiar with your company. The more you use it, the better it understands your brand.

If you are new to ChatGPT, you can get it acquainted with your company by using the following prompts:

Prompt to familiarize ChatGPT with your business:

Scan my company website: (add your website URL). Please tell me what we offer, what our specialty is, who our target audience is, and how we stand out in the marketplace compared to similar companies selling the same or similar products.

You will receive a summary of your business, which ChatGPT can reference for later prompts.

Finding Competitors

Prompt to identify competitors:

Create a quick competitor analysis for my company: pick 3–5 other competitors (list the industry or brand), compare them to (your company name), and highlight where (your company name) wins or falls short.

You will get answers organized by:

  • Key Competitors & Peers
  • Comparable Products on the Market
  • Strategic Advantages vs Competitors
  • Areas Where Competitive Pressure Exists
  • Strategic Considerations for Your Business

Identifying Leading Companies

Prompt to find recommended companies:

Which companies are good to buy (name the product or service) from and why?

ChatGPT will return top companies, what makes them stand out, and examples of products or services you can compare.

Prompt to learn how to compete with recommended brands:

How can I get (your company/brand) to rank alongside a brand like (top recommendation)?

Expected suggestions include:

  • Optimize Brand Positioning
  • Strengthen SEO & Online Visibility
  • Leverage Reviews & Social Proof
  • Paid & Targeted Marketing
  • Content & Authority Building
  • Partnerships & Collaborations
  • Product & Packaging

If any sections are missing, you can type them as separate prompts for a direct response. For example: How can I strengthen SEO and online visibility to compete with (recommended company/brand)?

Creating a Sales & Marketing Blueprint

Prompt to create a 90-day marketing plan:

Create a blueprint with a 90-day action plan showing exactly how to boost (your company name) to top-of-mind status alongside the company of the top recommendation, including SEO keywords, press pitch strategies, email marketing, in-person marketing, direct sales outreach, backlinks, social proof, paid advertisements, and influencer outreach.

ChatGPT can also generate supporting materials:

  • Weekly calendar version
  • Printable checklist
  • Email templates
  • Press pitch templates
  • Influencer outreach scripts
  • Line sheet and wholesale pitch templates

By following this 90-day blueprint, you’ll have a clear, actionable plan to position your business alongside top competitors and capture the attention of your target audience. Each step is designed to help you build visibility, strengthen your brand, and generate measurable results across multiple channels. Remember, consistency and follow-through are key; implementing these strategies over time will help you close gaps in your marketing, outpace the competition, and set your business up for sustainable growth. Use this blueprint as your roadmap.

AI is a tool, an incredibly useful one, but it’s only as effective as the strategy you apply it to. Use ChatGPT to gain insight, plan your marketing, and generate actionable steps, but always validate the suggestions for your specific business. With consistent effort, thoughtful experimentation, and a structured approach, AI can help you identify gaps, compete strategically, and grow your business.
